Suggester States, "This is a brilliant idea for deviantART that I thought of but never bothered to address."
I have to say this is an excellent idea for anyone interested in finding contests to enter. A search function that could find news articles or even journals with contest information in the medium desired, would be a time saver, as well as a way to find contests that a deviant may not normally be aware of!

Ok I worked on this more. Look better. eh? 
I changed few thing and I think it it is look much better now.

1) How would it assure the contest is still open? Would the person have to specify a time limit to tell the system how long it'll have to be open for?
A) System can read the dates on the journals and on the news articles in the 'contests'
2) Many different contests have different focus, some are for one medium only, but some are for any medium on one particular theme, or for none of these (say, a critique contest)...
A) With the main of categories of contests. They can create sub-categories in order to further sort them out. So it will be easy for people to find the contests. See numbers 5.
3) Why is it a 'random contest' button - why not a search function for contests instead?
'Random contest' button will be easier for people to find the contest just in case if they didn't visit the new articles and/or too many contests in news articles in the 'contest' section and it will take a long time to look for the contest what you like. But I changed 'Random Contest' to "Contests Journal" and "New Articles Contests"
4) How would you make sure this doesn't get abused by everyone who wants people to see their journal and will just mark it as 'contest' to get random people passing by?
A) If they don't feel comfortable to get random people stop by at their journals, they don't need to click on "Contest Journal" and don't need to add on New Articles Contests.
5) Why is it for journals? Wouldn't it be easier to do it for +news articles in the 'contest' section instead?
A) Because it is too many contests in news articles. Can't find what you want in news articles contest? Click on Contest Journal. See numbers one and two below.
1) For the "Contests Journal" - It will lead you to people's journals-easy. Can't find what you want? You can click on "Contests Journal" all over again.
2) For the "News Articles Contests" -Click on it, it will lead you to the new articles contests, see the option next to it, click on it and scollbox will appear next to it and you will see the list of categories, click on whatever you want, it will lead you to the list of the contests. It won't be hard for you to look through 3, 614 results cause it will take forvever to look for what you want.
You pick which you want to look for the contest on Contest Journal or News Articles Contests.
Contests in search catagories kinda is not helpful because people can't find what they WANT on deviantART. Most of them are over or the deadline is near end. They can keep Contests in search catagories to show what they did and what for.
Put "Contest Journal" either under the title or on More options on the below. I don't care which
